European Folk

My other trend prediction for SS15 is European Folk. With the 70's boho trend making a huge appearance on the recent runways, the Folk trend is an obvious next step. It takes elements of the boho trend and makes it more traditional. It also combines both the boho trend and the huge floral trend that is very big at the moment.

Again lots of bright primary colours.
Flowers
Embroidery
Cheese cloth and a long length in skirts.

The interiors include clashing prints and bright colours.

Release your Inner Child

My trend prediction for Spring/Summer 16 is for 'Release your Inner Child'.
This trend to me is about being an adult but being able to express your childish side. Through fashion, interiors and art.

Life these days is hard, full of stress, work and problems and sometimes all you need is to express yourself.

The trend to me includes bright colours, fun prints, hand drawn prints and expressive composition and childhood cartoons.

The trend for hand drawn prints has been seen recently on the catwalk at Dolce & Gabbana.
Angelina Jolie had drawing done by her children printed onto her wedding dress.
And Moschino had cartoon characters adorning their garments.
All of these things feed into the trend for Release your Inner Child.

Style Survey

I did a survey recently on peoples style and where they get their inspiration.

The age range of the survey was 18-35+ and 82% of surveyors were women.

46% were in the 0-£15,000 wage bracket.

Over half (57%) said they took their inspiration from what is currently in shops. Which puts them into the style tribe 'the late majority' Even though 89% said that they do not follow the crowd.

38% said that they take their inspiration from Street Style.

The most popular shops that people look in are New Look, Primark, Topshop and Matalan.

This to me says that even though people believe they are individual and don't follow the crowd they actually do, perhaps without realising it.

Childlike Qualities in Art

On a recent trip to the Tate Modern in London I was looking at art that to me gave off a 'childlike' quality. These are a few paintings that really stood out to me.

I love the bold, vibrant, primary colours of this piece.

The bottom two are by famous artist Pablo Picaso. These to me have a childlike quality in as much as the composition is not exactly correct and the use of bright colours.

Folk Sculpture

On a recent trip to the Tate Modern in London I couldn't help but be drawn to this sculpture by Chen Zhen. The piece itself is called Cocon du Vide.

This really reminds me of the sort of folk crafts you would have seen in the 70's.

Release your Inner Child Interiors

The idea of releasing your inner child applies to all aspects of life including interiors. To me childlike interiors include bright bold primary colours, fun prints, hand drawn prints and funky angles. I also think the idea of having a slide from your split level bedroom or a swing in your living room also counts!

100 year old photographs

Photography is such an integrated part of everyday life. Just looking around me right now I can see dozens of photographic images from actual photos to adverts using photos! I don't know a lot about the history of photography but even I have seen film etc showing olden days families sitting still posing for images while the photographer hides behind an enormous stand up camera and a big 'poof' and the image is taken.

These photographs really intrigued me. Nearly 100 years old but look like they were taken a mear 40 or so ago!

These colour images were taken in 1910 by Mervyn O'Gorman who was 42 years old when he shot the images.
The young woman in the pictures is said to be O'Gormans daughter Christina.

The Autochrome photography process was applied to create the melancholy tone of the images using dye and starch.

DKNY Update

So it seems that DKNY have announced that it has not one but two new creative directors! The duo Dao-Yi Chow and Macwell Osborne founded brand Public School and will continue to run this along side overseeing all DKNY collections.

Mac: New Make up fave!

Well after a year I have finally updated my make up! Up until now I have used Estée Lauder Double wear foundation and powder, well I have now officially been converted to Mac! As you can see from above the make up gives flawless coverage and I have now discovered I can go to the gym, have a gruelling session and it still stays put! I was amazed cannot recommend enough :)

Fairy tales are go!

Over the last few years fairy tales have been given new twists and brought up to date! From TV shows such a Grimm, Once Upon a Time and Beauty and the Beast to Films like the Brothers Grimm and of course Disneys remake of Cinderella!

And now to add to the list is the up and coming version of Beauty and the Beast!
With a major all start cast including Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor and Sir Ian McKellan to name just a few this film is set to be another sparkling fantasy showstopper!

Not due out till 2017 lets just hope the fairy tale craze lasts that long! Although even if it does down the cast confirmed so far will will absolutely get everyone back on board at its release date! Particularly Luke Evans and Dan Stevens ;)

Release Your Inner Child: Moschino 2015

While looking at all things 'childlike' there is no way I could over look this years Moschino shows. They clothing is fun colourful and frivolous all the things being a child should be! Absolutely Fabulous!

Release Your Inner Child

No matter how old you are we all have that little voice inside telling us to act like a child! I have jumped on a swing and sat on my own watching a Disney film many many many times! (I pretend they are for my 1 year old son but lets be honest he would rather watch Rupert the Bear!)
The need to be 'childlike' seeps into many aspects of life from interiors to fashion! Its slowly taking over with designers including Dolce & Gabbana, Anya Hindmarch and Moschino rocking the need to  release ones inner child!

Joel S Dickens

One of my trend prediction is for childlike prints. It has been seen recently by Dolce and Gabbana during their Mana and Me runway show and Topshop has created a 'toyshop' dress. The idea behind it shows a sweet naive print on classic garments.

The Australian artist Joel S Dickens has a very 'childlike' slant to his work. Even though his work is quite political and all of his work has very strong messages behind them the images themselves have a very childlike quality to them.
